This Ain't Teen Beat

So when my computer was down (and completely out) last week, I was a tad bit more productive on the home front (I might've even scrubbed some walls). A little more engaged with the big world out there too. Played a lot of Connect Four (I never knew I was so dang competitive) and Go Fish with the kiddos, redecorated their doll house (we pretended we were doing Extreme Makeover) AND watched way more TV.

We've been taking a break from Disney Channel lately too, as they haven't been playing the shows Momma likes for the kiddos as much, and in turn watching a lot of Animal Planet. In this, Momma's developed a little crush on Jeff Corwin. Yep, you heard me. Dang it. He's just so darn cute. Have you seen him? There's something about guys picking up cobras and camel skat that just does something to me. I love how he's a smarty pants, but doesn't take himself so seriously. He makes me laugh...a lot. Basically, this has always been true for me--if you make me laugh, you're in. And you know what's so great about this crush? I've been getting an education. I'm learning something. I never knew that there are these beetles that actually carry little flies on their bellies. Like the flies can totally fly and all, but they choose to catch a ride with the beetle. Wow, you just learn something every day, don't you?

Back to my crush. I tend to do this. Way back when, I had a teensy crush on the original Steve from Blue's Clues (I know, I know...). It was only for a minute (I think he quit soon after we actually started watching BC). Long gone are my Teen Beat days, and severe crushes on River Phoenix, Christian Slater and all the NKOTB boys. We're down to Steve from Blue's Clues. And my crush on Jeff is not as huge as my crush on a certain retired yellow Wiggle (yep, you heard me again) which I have had for about oh...um...six years now. Geez, I never counted it out like that.

Anyway!!! I tend to stick to crushes that I *know* will never ever amount to anything (not that it would anyway, I'm a good girl). It's not like I'm crushing on real people for goodness sakes (though there was that crush on my OBGYN--but that's a whole other story)! The more I type this out the more horrible it makes me sound. BUT...hubby knows all about this. I tell him everything. I cannot tell a lie. AND he reads my blog. So rest assured, we're all righty here. We laugh about it. We're good at that. And my computer is up and running again, so my TV days are numbered again. Now...what's Animal Planet's website, anyway???

Oh, I so remember buying my coveted 16 and Bop magazines back in the day...I was totally going to marry Simon Le Bon from Duran Duran (I was in 5th grade mind you.)

Good luck with Jeff Corwin! :)

Oh no worries. I totally have a crush on Greg from the Wiggles. I think he wears the turqoise shirt?? I don't know, my kids don't watch them anymore...but I still think about Greg. And my husband totally knows I'm leaving him for a famous man. He's cool with it.

Ha ha...y'all make me laugh. Good to know I'm not alone.

Remember Big Bopper? I loved those magazines. I was in love with Jason Bateman from Hogans Family. I think crushes make us have better immune systems. Crush on Sister Girl.

I haven't had the pleasure of checkin' out Mr. Corwin and the Wiggles have been banned from my home but Blue and her male companions make regular appearances here and I gotta say - Steve? In the stripey shirt? And the PLEATED pants?

Now Joe, on the other hand, is a little more to my liking with his hottie-hot unibrow. He can write in my handy-dandy notebook any day.

Jeff Corwin is cute in an elfish sort of way. I wonder if he's a Little Man (short). You know how tv makes all the cute boys look tall when in real life they're all 5'8" and under. If you're shorter than 5'8" then that's okay, but if you're like me, you like 'em taller! I'm just sayin'. But, I don't dig David Hasselhoff (he's like 6'5"). Yeah, he's a hairy beast!

I couldn't get past your reference to the deliciousness that was River Phoenix...sigh...

Now, what were you saying?

Jen said...

I know what you mean. The guess they have to choose really good looking people for all those show. But it does leave us moms with all kinda things to think about :) Found you from SITS

Jeff Corwin is adorable - and you feel like he could totally protect you in the wilderness. ROWR. I did a post on Steve too!!!!!!!! (and other preschool star crushes). How lame are we.

I know what you mean, I love watching Jeff Corwin. He is a cutie.....

Oh Tiger Beat! Yes yes yes....got all my "news" from Tiger Beat if ya know what I mean. And what happened to the yellow wiggles guy? Fortunately we have worn out all the Wiggles songs and shows and have moved onto LIttle Einsteins...because if I had to hear that Wiggles song one more stinkin time, I was going to lose my mind. Enjoy your day as SITS queen!

Here from SITS :-)

I get crushes on Scottish accents and if the said accent happens to be wearing a kilt, then I'm hooked.

Sean Connery, Ewan McGregor, Jaes McPherson, David McCallum, etc, etc ....

Karen said...

I'm right there with you!
I crush on all the nerdy guys. It makes my friends laugh. One of my favorites is Colin Firth!
I think I'd melt if I met him IRL!

Gina said...

Well he IS awfully cute and very manly and all so it's totally understandable.
Ahhhh, Christian Slater. Yeah, I was pretty big on him, too.
Now it's the mailman- well, our old mailman that sometimes still fills in. The BEST legs- I love summer....
(hubby is aware of this and often will holler "R's outside!!! and he's wearing SHORTS!!!" and so I run downstairs to have a looksee, and it's D.)
-sigh-
funny.

Sherri said...

Jeff is a cutie - in his own little way. Doesn't it totally bug your when the Disney Channel changes programming in the summer?

Ok, now I want to hear about the crush on the OBgyn. That sounds hilarious...and uncomfortable!!

Great post! (You need some paragraph breaks for easier reading!)

Please tell us about your OB/GYN crush!

Oooh, I think we had the same crushes growing up! You know who I TOTALLY have a crush on? Joel McHale from The Soup on E! He is hilarious and I will watch the Soup several times a week just to get my "Joel Fix". Try him, you'll like him!

Wow! That is a lot of "celebrity" crushes there! I only have one celebrity crush, Jim Halpert aka John Krasinski. I LA-ove him! :)

S Club Mama said...

Jeff Corwin? I, too, loved the NKOTB boys (although I was like maybe 5 and just thought their Barbies were cool). My biggest famous crush was Jonathan Taylor Thomas. My 5th grade teacher even made fun of me for liking "JTT" (after I ordered his calendar out of a book order).

Lisa@BlessedwithGrace said...

Very funny. He is s cutie.

Celeb crushes? Yeah, I have them. way too many, actually.... and the Hubbs knows about it and laughs at me. great blog! Over from SITS

I had a crush on Captain Feathersword. I believe his name is Paul Paddock. See if you can find a picture of him without his face all scrunched up. He's a looker!

I love the comments this post generated. My husband teases me about my attractions to unexpected vicitims. Not Steve, but maybe Joe. Definitely the yellow wiggle (Greg, I think) and one of the Kratts brothers from Zaboomafoo. Plus the last three "real" (People I actually know) crushes I have had have been on men in uniform (Which I never took myself for that kind of girl) A mailman, a fireman, and a polic officer! (But they all had a similar dark look and mysterious aura!)

Tam said...

Funny Funny....Ah Teen BEAT Magazine...I have not thought about that in years! LOL LOL I use to love my POSTER of Leif Garrett..lol There was this Poster of Elvis Pressley in my room that my MOM put there..I think that was her crush and so she put it in my room..lol lol Great post

Tami said...

Yup, I have those "never really ever gonna meet him" crushes. My hubby knows and he's cool with it.

On my stat tracker for my blog, I have a reader from Green Bay, WI. I told my hubby that Brett Farve MUST be reading my blog. His response, "He actually lives in Mississippi."

I don't care what he says, in my mind, its Brett!! (yea, we're on a 1st name basis)

I can't even reveal my crushes...holy crap I would lose all credibility...

Teen Beat. I had a whole wall of pictures of boys I tore out of those mags. I loved that wall...

When it was my day in the sun, you gave me such sweet comments...and you were ready to move next door. The house is for sale, by the way. Now, you can have Jeff and Steve...but the Wiggles...those are some good looking guys :-)

Swirl Girl said...

I am showing my age here, but I had David Cassidy posters all over my walls as a girl.

These days I get all agog over nerdy funny guys like Jon Stewart and those kids from Suite Life of Zach and Cody make me giggle like a schoolgirl.

Hi! Surfed over from SITS. I must admit, that my current crush, is Anthony aka the blue wiggle. But mostly in the recent years, not back in the uni-brow days.

We are debating going to see them in concert and I asked my friend if she thought he would mind if I threw my undies on stage lol... I was just kidding obviously!

So glad to see so many of us have fun crushes!

Mama Dawg said...

Oh, my. I had such a crush on Steve as well.

My favorite Wiggle will always be Anthony. Most because he's just the unassuming one. I mean, Jeff's got the sleepy thing, Greg's the hottie and Murray has his guitar. I guess I like Anthony so much cause he's a foodie, like me!

Came from SITS!

Angie's Spot said...

I've always thought Jeff Corwin was a cutie and Steve too! I've never seen The Wiggles, so apparently I'm missing out on something there! :-)

Crazy Momma said...

Okay...big secret time...Levar Burton from Reading Rainbow. When my 8 year old was home full time (and I was pregnant and feeling rather emotional) I thought Levar would be the answer to all my prayers...then I caught an old Star Trek episode...

I love this and I totally get where you are coming from! We would never act on it (right???)...

Just one more reason that I think that I am thankful that I don't have cable...I know....we live in the dark ages with bunny ears!

No tv here either anymore...and I've never crushed on a cartoon/kids show person..but Ewan, I'll crush on that anyday. He's hot!

Cute blog by the way!

Since we're all admitting--I had a crush on the Kratt Brothers from Zooboomafoo. The show was horrible, but I'd watch it with my kids every day to have a look at those cute, rugged brothers. I never could decide if I liked Chris or Martin better.....but what can we do---we let these men into our homes on a daily basis and they entertain our children, they're bound to capture our hearts sooner or later ;)!

And next time I see Jeff, I'll let him know you heart him.

Just found my way over from SITS. I think the cute hosts on Animal Planet are definitely for the parents.

Mommy Meryl said...

Wow - Teen Beat, Tiger Beat - those bring back memories! I remember having tons of pin-ups of Shaun Cassidy, Leif Garret, John Stamos (before he was Uncle Jessie and before he was on ER!), Andy Gibb and ohhh, I think I can't even remember the others! But I don't really remember any of them being as cute as Zac Efron or Corbin Bleu or Nick Jonas - do you??? Ok - and I have to tell you, I completely adore Johnny from Johnny & the Sprites - maybe its because I know he has a little bit of naughtiness in him, after all is was all about Avenue Q before this show! :)

THE Stephanie said...

Hi.Larious!!!! You know it's bad when we're day dreaming about the hotties on the Wiggles... That's when it's time to get out more :) lol

Jeff Corwin...can't see the attraction myself, but that's why it takes all kinds.

My current "kid tv" crush is on Shaun from Hi-5. He looks like all the guys I had crushes on in my teenage years (and incidentally nothing like my husband, haha).

Its amazing how much more work i get done when my internet is out - and all my work is online....

I had the biggest crush on the original steve from blues clues too. and I don't even have kids yet.

My crush is Alton Brown. I have a thing for geeks that can cook for me.

Merrie said...

I'm guessing your hubby doesn't have to feel too threatened over a yellow wiggle. :) I always liked the one with the dark hair and the smoldering eyes, but I can't remember which color he was. (Can a Wiggle really have smoldering eyes??! lol)

Nichole said...

don't even get me started on celebrity crushes! will smith is the ultimate of my crushers. ever had a crush on one of your hubby's co workers? not a good thing~ I'll stick with the celebs

Is he on your LIST? Lol.

Yes, Jeff Corwin's a cutie.

Crushes are great! And very healthy. Yes I'm trying to convince myself haha. We all have them but I like the bad boys. Can you say Vin Diesel.

Came over from SITS . . . and, have you heard the new NKOTB song, "Summer Time"? Oh wow. The memories those boys bring back!

Here from SITS:
A crush on your OB/GYN? Okay, that one got me... At first I thought the Steve from Blues Clues was a wee strange... Then you segued into the wiggles... But once you went gynecological??? Well, that's just crazy talk there. :-D
Tell me, does Brad Pitt do anything for you?

Michelle said...

Mmmm, Christian Slater! I still get chills over his voice.

But you forgot about Andre Agassi! How could you not have crushed on him?

(yep, SITS girl)

Popped over from SITS. I too am a NKOTB junkie, and like Toni, am headed to a concert in October. I totally loved my Teen Beat, Bop and Big Bopper mags! My only real celeb crush was Joe, from the NKOTB- who is featured as Eye Candy on my blog right now! Some things never change I guess. : )

Oh, what a relief to find another David Cassidy lover. (aka Keith Partridge on my favorite TV show ever!!!) Swirl Girl, I'm coming to visit you next. We are twins separated at birth. And my lips are sealed on what year that was!

And for the record, it's Steve over Joe, and I do move slowly through the viewing area when the Kratt brothers are on (or maybe I'm just avoiding the laundry room...).

He is Super cute! I like the Kratt brothers from Zoboomafoo, yes both of them! :)

Oh man - the comments are as hilarious as the post. I wallpapered my room with a certain Tiger Beat pin up boy and my older brother's girlfriend promised my parents that I would be over it by 15. They said "aint gonna happen" - but she was right.

I totally remember Teen Beat and Tiger Beat. I loved the pull out posters. I plastered my wall with Ricky Schroeder and Andrew McCarthy.

Hee-larious! My little one is too young for Wiggles yet, but apparently I have some eye candy in store! You know I can't watch them now without thinking dirty thoughts, right?
My faves back in the day were the 2 Coreys...my BFF and I fell out b/c we both liked Haim over Feldman and obviously we couldn't share. Tragic, I tell ya!
